It is common for ABCD practitioners to deride evaluation as 'counting' , 'devoid of community' and 'missing the point.'  And for good reason.  Traditional evaluation has often been program focused and driven, numbers obsessed and, often, completely colonial in its relationship with the communities being evaluated. Whereas most ABCD work, when done well,  is people focused, relationship obsessed and completely indigenous in its relationship with communities.

But, if we look closer at a decolonized version of evaluation we find tools for mutual accountability,  asset revealing and power shifting toward residents.  Done well, and decolonized, evaluation can provide residents and ABCD practitioners ways to advance this work in a number of ways.

In this discussion we will first share what measurements we have seen used that either did or could work well with ABCD. Then we will discuss what other measurements might be useful indicators of ABCD impact. This is all peer sharing and brainstorming together. Be sure to bring YOUR ideas and stories! As we all join in the conversation, we will look at our list of measures through the lenses of creating mutual accountability, revealing assets, and power shifting towards residents and community.

What is a Global Gathering?

Gobal Gatherings are NOT webinars or presentations. They are opportunities for members of ABCD in Action to engage in meaningful conversations. We don't have the answers to the questions we propose, but we'll provide a space for you to share your stories, ideas, and questions. Our hosts will guide you through a series of questions in small groups in order to help you think together about the questions we propose.

Co-hosts: Ron Dwyer-Voss and Deb Wisniewski
