Hello—I am currently looking for volunteer participants for a research study titled “Exploring Practitioners’ Strategies for Social Inclusion of People with Disabilities.” This study has the potential to add knowledge to the field of human services and will be shared broadly once completed.

 To participate:

  • Be 18 years or older and live in the United States.
  • Have experience as a Community Development Practitioner/ Consultant/Connector/Organizer or other similar role with communities or neighborhoods in the United States.
  • Have experience working with communities that include, either purposefully or not, people with disabilities
  • Your participation is voluntary, and interview responses will remain confidential.

Wanted to provide an update on my dissertation and the research study that I posted here. The full dissertation and a summary are located at: https://lourash.com/research/

I will be hosting several conversations as follow-up to the findings and related topics. Two have been scheduled in June:

Part 1: Community is not a Service- Monday, June 6 at 5 PM Central

  • How can Human Services organizations support broader community work while recognizing their role as an institution?
  • Within individualized funding frameworks, how can human services organizations support broader community work?

Part 2: What is the role of Community Development? Monday, June 13th at 5 PM Central

  • How can Community Development Practitioners promote the gifts and talents of people with disabilities in their communities?
  • What does community inclusion mean within the context of Community Development?
