Trauma Informed Community Building

Trauma Informed Community Building

Tuesday July 5 2022, 9:30 AM AEST
@ Online

Tuesday 5th & Wednesday 6th July from 9.30am AEST (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart time)
Trauma is common within society at large and is particularly prevalent amongst vulnerable populations, First Nations peoples and people with lived experience of disability and/or mental health challenges. It is important when we are working with any community that we work in a way that does no harm.

Trauma Informed Community Building (TICB) practice is a strengths-based framework that supports an awareness of the impact of trauma, when working with communities. As community development practitioners and workers, we need an awareness of the impact of trauma and trauma informed practices, to ensure we do not harm the communities we work with.

During the session we will explore Trauma Informed Community Building (TICB) principles and practices to support greater community participation and ownership to encourage location initiatives.

During this 2 day workshop you will learn:

  • What it means to be trauma informed
  • Conditions of Community Trauma
  • How to apply Trauma Informed Community Building practices and strategies to your work
  • How Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) processes and practices align with TICB
  • Trauma Informed Community Building Outcomes
  • Common misunderstandings
  • Lessons Learned and outgoing challenges

Who is this for?

Community development practitioners, Disability (NDIS) workers, academics, youth workers, disaster recovery, local government, school chaplains, community workers; anyone working in community.
