Public Health Policies and ABCD

ABCD and Institutions (Universities, Hospitals, Government, Libraries, NGOs, etc.)

Hi Connor- I have had success embedding ABCD into several key aspects of a unit in a public health departments. I think ABCD lends itself to the focus on equity that is the focus of Public Health 3.0-  with examples like the expansion of the role of Community Health Workers, paying residents for their participation/time on projects and committees, and the focus on placemaking in community health.  Happy to chat more and I know others have experience as well- Allison

Who Are You? Why are you here?

ABCD and Inclusive Communities/People with Disabilities

Hello Peter- I am sure some Africa based practitioners will chime in but wanted to mention the work of Agroforestry and Lisa Fuchs- https://apps.worldagroforestry.org/downloads/Publications/PDFS/PO20058.pdf

Five and Ten Network out of Canada might also be a good connection.

Janine Ward can connect you with ABCD Africa- https://abcdinaction.org/janine-ward

Block Connector Platform?

Open Discussions

Welcome Brianne- I do not know of anyone using that site although I have seen it advertised before. Others use more of an open-ended approach. Have you connected with Howard Lawrence who runs the Block Connector program for the City of Edmonton Canada? I would suggest that would be a useful connection as they use a connecting card- https://www.edmonton.ca/public-files/assets/document?path=PDF/ACE-BlockConnectorsResourceGuide.pdf

You could build an internal database similar to the block connector software too- as a fellow Wisconsinite I would be happy to chat about what that could look like.

ABCD And Policy

ABCD and Institutions (Universities, Hospitals, Government, Libraries, NGOs, etc.)

Hello Fasoranti- citizen-driven policy is very much in alignment with ABCD and I think about this mainly at a local level- a group of youth who are involved in changing a local council policy that impacts them for example. I also think about work I am involved in around paying community members (including youth) for their work when institutions are wanting citizens to sit on committees and provide input. There are some academic journal articles that relate to this I can send if you would like. I think there is a great opportunity to develop a citizen drive policy framework that aligns with ABCD.

My street neighboring project: what to name it, how to fund it, and how to measure it?

ABCD and Community Organizing/Engagement

Joel- do some of these things need to be defined before engaging the neighborhood? Could it be more impactful if those initially engaged decide these?

In terms of evaluation, how do you define social trust?  You could do interviews or open-ended surveys at points in time and collect themes to see if they align with your outcomes.  -Allison

Would love some feedback on a project!!

Asset Mapping & Gift Inventories

Hi Amy- are you asking if asset mapping or another approach would be appropriate? I would think that it would be a way to engage citizens on what is already available as well as the gifts of individuals. There are numerous resources on how to asset map on this site but I would be happy to send you some as part of a project I am working on- allison@lourash.com.

ABCD and Service Clubs

Open Discussions

I am curious if any ABCD practitioners/consultants have worked with Service Clubs like Kiwanis or Rotary to explore their role in communities?  I am currently working on a project with one of the groups across their international network to address some other related things and wonder if there is an opportunity there.

Thanks- Allison
