Hey there ABCD-ers,

I'm currently in Surabaya, Indonesia waiting to start work tomorrow morning with ABCD teams from both Surabaya and Makassar universities plus, a few of our Indonesian members!

I will be here for 2 weeks and hope to share with everyone some of the great ABCD work being initiated and implemented!

Apart from learning more about each other, we will be discussing some of the following areas:

  • People versus Programs - what does that look like?
  • Participatory Leadership - exploring a range of underpinning frameworks
  • Monitoring and evaluating community-based initiatives - how is that possible?
  • Engaging a diverse audience - how can we encourage buy-in

I will also be sharing some community-based outreach project examples from my work with Graeme Stuart at the Family Action Centre and exploring further opportunities for students to be involved in community-based service learning or placements!

Thanks to the conversations generated at the UK Festival, we will also be exploring the following questions with community partners:

  1. What can community do on its own?
  2. What can community do with some support from agencies/organisations?
  3. What should agencies/organisations stop doing? (or; What can agencies/organisations only do alone?)

I'm greatly looking forward to the next couple of weeks and will share here, when I can!

Please let me know if you are part of the work this week or if you are nearby - it would be great to meet some of our Indonesian members who are not involved in the University work!

Yours in community,

Dee...
