Thank you for your response Jamie. But from your explanation if the Leakey Bucket is not the right tool to use in such an area, then which other tool can be used to analyse the economic status of such a community, if you know of any.I work in Nairobi Kenya.I work with NGAO SOCIETY where we use the ABCD model to enhance the lives of low income earners in the low income areas.
Hi Dan,greetings from Kenya, i have been a practitioner of ABCD in Kenya for like two years now and i am doing alot with young people however i fell to get more responsibility to the government in terms of service delivery and citizen participation.I understand that ABCD is about active citizenship but i would like to come up with a program that will marry ABCD and good governance, might you be having any idea on this?
I understand that the Leakey bucket has been a good approach for communities to use in creating their own local economies, what i would like to know is if the Leakey bucket can be used to analyse the local economy of a highly populated informal settlement "slum" within the capital city. And can it be possible for this community to enhance its economic status using the analysed findings from the Leakey bucket...
Hi,i have been following this conversation and am so happy to see that we are in the same course of making the world a better place.I am part of ABCD KENYA,an organization working with the ABCD model to try and get the community choose the destiny of its people.I would be glad if i could also receive the HCD and ABCD toolkit. It will help me understand deeper this model.

Thank you John, before i came to know about ABCD,i had actually done the other design of community organizing which included activism, boycotting, demonstration.Though much of this was on issue based approach, ABCD has been on strengths and capacities and i have come to like it so much because it has been in line with how i think things should be done.So i was just asking to know if i can incorporate the two modes of organizing.I mean organizing by focusing on what can work for the community.Beside this,i have also read your article on the link you gave me and its really helping me know more. Thanks a lot.
Hallo people,i just wanted to know,is real activism,i mean mobilizing people to hold their leaders accountable for the services they offer the community part of ABCD approach?i mean demonstrations and boycotting our leaders.Or should we play it soft just to come up with solutions to our problems just because members are willing to gather their assets and be part of the solution to their problems.
Hi Janice, just checked your post,i can see its dated five years ago.Young people really feel inspired to work in an environment of art.I am the youth development officer of ABCD KENYA,an organization that uses asset based community development methodology to facilitate the involvement of the community in its own development. For few years we used to run our programs without the incorporation of Art and music and i would see young people getting bored during the sessions.I had to be creative and start up an art program that would incorporate all talented young people. This has been a strength to the organization as young people take part in every program but as a sign of inspiration they get from the art programs in the organization.we have now majored in four main areas of art: spoken word, abstract art, photography and dancing.
Almost the whole of 2016 we were facilitating community conversations under the ABCD model. It was so surprising how the community has vast knowledge about what affects them and what can be done to end all this issues. This community conversations really gave birth to quite a number of solutions to community problems. The Community conversations have provided us and continue unearthing very pertinent issues, assets, strengths, opportunities and capacities that exist in Kangemi Community. As part of the solutions to some of the issues that emanated from the community conversations,We came up with a mentorship program which has proven to be of very importance to the young people in our area. This now determines the state of happiness and success for very many young poeple. Young people have now realized that they had the potential but the issue was just someone who could tap into it to make them achieve their dreams.Community conversation has proven to be one of the best ways of issue identification and prioritization, and this is also a good start to make the community take part of solving their own problems since you make them engaged in their own issue from the beginning.
