Next month, I will have 5 minutes to present up to 4 very brief stories about how communities can support both adult and student literacy. I'm looking for examples of "grassroots" efforts. I know that there are many greatcommunity-centered organizations and institutions that consider literacy as part of their mission (e.g., libraries, Boys and Girls Clubs, etc), but I'm looking for "unusual suspects" who are doing creative, literacy-oriented activities. One story I already plan to use is the "Little Free Library" movement (Google it if you don't know about it yet), but I'd like other creative and innovative approaches anybody might know about.

Thanks!

Steve,

Are you still looking for brief stories on how communities can support literacy? I have just seen this and I might be a bit late, you might have to present soon?

I am interested in what you find out - I am interested in literacy and essential skills for adults.
