Smart institutional leaders know that they cannot solve big problems withoutcitizen involvement.Citizen leaders know that their work will gomuch furtherif therespected institutions in their community areengaged. Yet too often, efforts by institutions and citizens seem to runon parallel tracks, in full view of one another, but never effectivelyintersecting.

Join us to explore opportunities and challengesthat both institutions and citizen leaders face when they try to get on thesame track.Byron White, authorof Navigating the Power Dynamics Between Institutions and TheirCommunities, a new reporton research sponsored by The KetteringFoundation, will be our guest to share insights from hisresearch. Byron is Associate Vice President for Community Engagement atCincinnati's XavierUniversity and the founding executive director of the university's James andDelrose Eigel Center for Community-Engaged Learning. Beforejoining Xavier's staff, White was senior manager of community relations for theChicago Tribune, where he was also a writer and editor. White serves asan adjunct faculty member of the Asset Based Community Development Institute atNorthwestern University.

Registration is open to everyone who supports people as change-makers in theirown communities through funding, technical assistance, training orresearch. The only cost for participation is the cost of a normallong-distance call, charged to your own telephone when you call in - our way ofcost-sharing so we can use topical conference calls to connect the grassrootsgrantmaking community to promising practices, new resources, and theoutstanding work of your peers.
