Hello everyone, please I have been working with a community trying to establish a local school as there are no schools in the community where children can get a formal education. I have been able to lease a land for a temporary cite and will commence a local structure by next week. But the challenge is only two qualified teachers have shown interest in leaving their comfort zones to help further the project for a period of time. Please does anyone have a better idea on how i can attract other teachers to join us?

Hello Kabiru,

How are you doing? It's good to hear that you have established a local school and now you're looking to attract other teachers to join.

I have done something similar some year ago and the simple things I did was to:

1. Sell the vision: Our plan was to create an innovation hub in the community, that would help children and youths turn their skills into tangible solutions - jobs, solve community problems, etc. Most of the available schools don't do this, students only show what they have learned via exams only. For us, we wanted to do all the opposite of what the regular schools  - especially being practical.

2. Make our initial creative outcomes visible: we started with just 2 teachers (called facilitators), we made sure that the kids and youths that came to our classes (we offered some in-school programs too) take home anything that was created. So, every knowledge was practical to whatever challenges students and the community was facing. It worked out.

We didn't run as a school - we ran as an academy (a non-profit).

Happy to share further if you need any input.
