I am working to define focus areas for a neighborhood revitalization/community development summit. We would like to identify the four primary pillars (or areas of study/expertise and work) of Community Development/Neighborhood Revitalization and group our workshops under those four categories. Currently, we are working with 1. Strategic Partnerships 2. Community investment 3. Funding sources and 4. Vision to plan.

I will greatly appreciate your insights and advice.

Hi,

This isjust an extention to #1: Organizing in general is extremely important. Jean Monnet ("Europe's father") said something like this (I don't have the exact words): " Nothing happens without people, nothing lasts without institutions". Organizing may be seen as a bureaucratic and even constraining element, but in times of trouble it may be the neccesary backbone for getting through.

When I think about Asset Based Community Development I think about:

Hi Kathrin:

1. Practices of community listening that result in:

a. Discovery of assets

b. An agenda for change that arises from listening to residents.

2. Developing community action teams to act on what they care about

3. Developing indigenous leaders

4. Supplementing resident resources via collaborations, networks, partnerships.

How does this fit?

Jay
